Subterranean termites are the most destructive and frequently encountered termite found throughout Florida. Although they nest in soil, they can attack structures by building tubes that connect their nests to the wood in structures (mud tubes). They may be detected by the presence of winged reproducers, mud tubes and wood damage. The winged reproducers surface from colonies in large numbers (swarming) usually from January through May during the daylight hours.
