I know it’s winter and grass goes a little dormant but it seems like it isn’t even growing and the front is shriveled up like hay. I am giving it adequate water, I think. As promised I was by your property yesterday and did a thorough inspection of your lawn. As I expected, the conditions that Matt from Scotts, stated concerning your lawn and shrubs were completely false. There is no evidence of nutrient deficiency, fungus or disease in your lawn or shrubs. Though, 2 of your palms are in the beginning phases of needing a good feeding. We treat the palms at $18 each palm twice a year. Let me know if you’re interested.
However, sales guys from teams like this of Scotts as well as others, appear during times of year when there is frost damage and the grass is still dormant and prey on homeowners in subdivision’s like yours using unethical sales practices to attempt to gain new customers. Actually this year alone I am personally aware of 2 homes where they have  accidentally stopped at their own customers homes claiming they have disease and so forth and then have to try and “talk their way out” of the very claims that they have just made. . needless to say 1 of those customers is now a Nelson’s customer.

Are spiders invading your home?  Do you want to get rid of spiders in and around your home?  

Brown Recluse Spider

Spiders, although in most cases are harmless to humans, are simply annoying to homeowners.  Even though spiders are helpful because they eat other insects and spiders, most people want them out of and away from their home. There are several species of house spiders and whether there is one spider or a lot of them, over a period of time, an accumulation of webs will build up,  collecting dust, therefore, creating cobwebs.  Your average homeowner does not really enjoy dusting down those cobwebs…this is what we specialize in! 

Controlling spiders is not an easy task.  When you compare controlling spiders to ants and roaches, it is much easier to control the ants and roaches.  As a defense mechanism, ants and roaches continually brush their bodies against the baseboards and around cabinets; therefore, making it easier for them to come in contact with our product. Because spiders have 8 pinpoint legs each with callused feet, having them come in contact with our applied product is difficult.  In addition, just the average insecticide is not strong enough to keep spiders at bay.  Nelson’s Pest Control, Inc. urges you to sign up for our Quarterly Tampa Pest Control program which contains the best known insecticide, Temprid.  Temprid will not only get rid of spiders, it is also most effective in preventing spiders. 

If you’re not going to hire us for your pest control (which includes getting rid of and prevention of spiders), then your best preventative is to keep outside lights off at night.  Lights kept on are an attraction for a variety of flying insects which are a spider’s favorite prey, and will cause there to be a lot of spiders found around garages and under eaves.  Be sure to keep clean the outside of your home from trash, wood piles, weeds and other outside “structures” that would create the perfect breeding places for spiders.  One of the preventative measures that we offer with our quarterly Tampa pest control program is to make sure those cobwebs are swept down and any egg sacs destroyed to prevent spider babies from hatching.

There are some species of spiders that are poisonous.  If bitten, and when in doubt, it is important to save the spider if possible, so that a medical professional can identify what type of spider you have been bitten by and the appropriate antidote.  Although, most spider bites are not likely to be a danger, we recommend seeking the advice of a medical professional to be sure.  Widow spiders and Brown Recluse spiders are venomous and can cause moderate to severe reactions.

The long, hot humid summer has been a perfect breeding ground for all kinds of roaches to multiply.  And now with the slightly cooler Florida days of Fall upon us, these pesky roaches would like to take over your home.  Act fast…when you call your Tampa Pest Control company and ask, “how do I get rid of roaches?”, it may help to know a little bit about these pests.  Let me tell you about the types of roaches Nelson’s Pest Control, Inc. has been seeing in the Tampa area this season.

Asian Cockroach 

• Small – 5/8” long
• Strong flier
• Mainly outdoors
• Likes light and will crawl on the illuminated tv screen
• Identical to appearance of German cockroach (tan in color, small) Unlike German roach because GR will not fly

Australian Cockroach

• 1 ¼ – 1 3/8” long
• Yellow on thorax – section after the head
• Lives outdoors
• If indoors, may eat holes in clothing and book covers
• Resembles the American cockroach or palmetto bug

Brown-banded Roach  

• Small-5/8” long
• Less frequently found in kitchens
• Do not require much moisture
• Generally found on ceilings, up on walls (close to the ceiling), behind pictures, near motors of appliances in the home
• Do not like light, not usually seen during the day
